DESCRIPTION
Salvia divinorum is a sprawling perennial herb found in the Sierra Mazatec region of Mexico. It's leaves contain the extremely potent Salvinorin A. It has a history of buccal use as a divinatory psychedelic, and has been widely available since the mid 1990s primarily as a smoked herb. Its effects are considered unpleasant by many people.

France
We have been told that "Salvia is legal to possess, and consumption is not illegal in France." (unconfirmed).
Germany
In May 2006, Salvia divinorum was classified as a pharmaceutical by BfArM, the German body that regulates drugs. Consequently, it is illegal to sell Salvia products in shops that are not drugstores; at least one headshop owner is facing legal consequences for the sale of Salvia. As of July 2007, the BfArM may be considering scheduling Salvia divinorum and all of its parts.
Erowid received the following comment in Dec 2005:
Two months ago I was travelling by train from Amsterdam through Germany and I was searched by German police. They confistated 1/2 gram of Salvia divinorum from me and I just received a fine for 100 euros in the mail. Either it is controlled or I'm the victim of an overzealous German district attorney. - JM
